Jardine, Skinner and Co
Biography
Jardine, Skinner & Co., a tea and general trading company, was founded initially in Bombay in 1825. It was reformed in Calcutta in 1844 by David Jardine and Charles Binny Skinner. Jardine was the nephew of William Jardine, one of the founders of Jardine, Matheson & Co., and there were close links between the two firms, which were both represented in London by Matheson & Co. Ltd. The company merged with George Henderson Ltd in 1946 to form Jardine Henderson Ltd.

The largest part of the archive is comprised of original correspondence of Jardine, Skinner & Co. (JS/1-9). The letters are supplemented by a set of modern extracts and indexes compiled by the researcher E.A. Paterson (JS/10-11). The remaining material consists of papers relating to companies associated with the firm of McLeod Russel, which formed part of the original accession of papers (JS/12).
