Indo-China Steam Navigation Co Ltd

 Organization

Biography

The Indo-China Steam Navigation Co. Ltd was incorporated in 1881 to assume responsibility for Jardine, Matheson & Co.'s fleet. The head office was transferred to Hong Kong in 1916, where Jardine, Matheson & Co.'s local office became the company's General Managers. The company was reconstructed as the Indo-China Steam Navigation Co. (Hong Kong) Ltd in 1973, and the original company was liquidated in 1974. The reconstructed company remained the ship-owning subsidiary of the Jardine Matheson Group until 1976, when it became a purely ship management company. It moved subsequently into the bulk shipping business, as well as developing new enterprises. Jardine Matheson disposed of its remaining vessels during the 1980s.
