The view looks north-east along the waterfront, towards the Albert and Victoria Docks on the headland in the distance. The wharf of the Borneo Company was purchased by the Tanjong Pagar Docks in 1885 for $1,000,000.

The imposing buildings beyond, at the corner of Bonham Street and Boat Quay, are the premises of the Katz Brothers, traders in Singapore since 1864.
